In one final attempt to make his 11th NFR, 25th ranked bareback rider Caleb Bennett re-injured his left leg at the Strathmore Stampede earlier this week.
Bennett had previously tore a tendon during his Showdown Round ride at The Calgary Stampede on July 16.
According to an Instagram post, Bennett said he felt a little pop and a lot of pain during his ride in Strathmore.
“The optimistic side of me gets the best of me at times. I had try it so there wasn’t any; could have, would have, should have,” he wrote. “Now with no regrets, and no question about it. I am going to take a minimum of 4 weeks off. I’m going to take this time to get better, get stronger physically and mentally, reassess my goals, and spend time with my best friend or the one I get to call my wife (Savannah) I wouldn’t be where I am today without her, the love and support of family and friends, and without the good lord above. This was truly a hard pill to swallow, because I love the sport of rodeo, the family and brotherhood that we all share, and of course riding bucking horses.”
