A Look at ProRodeo’s Top 30 in Each Event

We all know why athletes want to end up in the Top 15 in the PRCA | RAM World Standings — it earns them a spot at the National Finals. But those who don’t get a shot at the NFR still hope to end the season in the Top 30. Why? Because it qualifies them to compete at some of the major winter rodeos, such as Denver, San Antonio, Fort Worth, and Houston, the following year.

Steve Kenyon and Janie Johnson look at previous NFR qualifiers and rising stars who have moved into the Top 30. They may or may not break into the Top 15 and see the finals this year, but can still set themselves up for a strong start to 2021.

Spur Lacasse went from No. 33 to No. 30 in the bareback riding; in the steer wrestling Nick Guy moved into No. 28 after his win in Douglas; the team roping brothers brothers Joshua and Jonathan Torres take the No. 27 and No. 26 spots in the heading and heeling; bronc rider Jake Watson has made a huge jump from No. 34 to No. 26 this month; fellow Canadian Kyle Lucas started the month outside the top 50 and now sits at No. 30 in the tie-down roping; North Platte champion Michelle Alley has gone from No. 34 to No. 29 in the WPRA World Standings; and having been on a role since his 90-point ride in Sikeston, bull rider Jeston Mead has moved from No. 30 to No. 24.
