This weekend was full of firsts for the sport of rodeo.
We kicked things off in Palmer, Alaska for the first ever Northern Most Xtreme Bull Riding where 40 of the best bull riders in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association competed for their chance at a different kind of gold than they are used to. Roscoe Jarboe took home the win but unfortunately he did not cover the bounty bull to get the gold. That means the gold prize for next year has now doubled!
The other ground breaking event of the weekend was the Back When They Bucked in Deadwood, South Dakota. This event consisted of breakaway roping and saddle bronc riding and was put together by the Black Hills Stock Show Foundation to support the foundation and its efforts.
Madison Outhier won the breakaway with 6.0 seconds in the average after a 3.4 in the long go and a 2.6 in the short go.
Lefty Holman claimed the saddle bronc title after going for 88.5 points on Korkow Rodeo’s Onion Ring. Brody Cress won the first round with 87.5 points and Zeke Thurston won the average with 173.5 points on two.
