Andrea Busby has been known for owning some of the quarter horse industry’s top stallions and now, she is taking her run at a Gold Buckle.
With the help of great horses like Benny, Derby and Pickles, Busby’s Thomas and Mack dreams have become a reality after an amazing season that included a handful of wins. She is the No. 12 ranked barrel racer in the WPRA standings with $115,838.
Springville Sierra Rodeo, $1,357
Busby only had about $4,000 to her name when she piced up her first win of the 2024 regular season at the end of April. It came during the California Run when she clocked a 17.65-second run to be half a second faster than the rest.
That following week, Busby would pick up another win and more steam at the Hugo Pro Rodoe in Oklahoma. Her 15.59 would be one tenth of a second faster than Jamie Olsen to cinch the win.
Famous Preston Night Rodeo, $4,911
During the first weekend of August at one of the most iconic rodeos in Idaho, Busby would beat one of the most legendary horses running right now when she clocked a 16.70-second run. This put her first over Hailey Kinsel and Sister, Dona Kay Rule and Valor, along with Jordon Briggs and Rollo.
With 60 days left in the regular season, Busby had yet to crack the Top 15 as she sat No. 21 in the WPRA World Standings.
Strathmore Stampede, $5,856
A quick swing to the great white north resulted in a trip to the pay window in Strathmore the same weekend as Preston. Busby’s 17.56 put her second behind Taycie Matthews the same weekend as her win in Preston.
Farm-City Pro Rodeo, $8,845
Hermiston, Oregon would bring Busby one of her highest paydays of the season. A 17.10 would be worth almost $9,000 and she clocked faster, yet again, than some of the industry’s top horses and veteran barrel racers. It was her first of two Playoff Series Wins from Aug. 7-10.
Cache County Fair and Rodeo, $6,650
Keeping up her momentum in the north during the Summer Run, Busby found herself in the Winner’s Circle in Utah to add to it. She would top the leaderboard with a 16.86-second run to be just four hundredths of a second faster than anybody else.
After those two wins, she found herself in the Top 15 as the 12th ranked barrel racer in the WPRA.
Caldwell Night Rodeo, $9,145
Busby and Benny’s highest payday came in Idaho when they were the definition of consistency in the first two Go-Rounds. A 17.14 and 17.11 put her second in both rounds before the duo hammered down to clock a 16.95 to finish third in the Final Round.
When the dust settled, Busby was the No. 2 ranked cowgirl in the Average to cap off her trip to the Caldwell Night Rodeo.
