Rocker Steiner used a big final weekend of the season at the Governor’s Cup to jump into the No. 1 spot in the PRCA Bareback Riding World Standings. He earned over $233,000 on the season and is looking for his first World Title in what will be his third consecutive NFR appearance.
A year ago, he won three rounds in Las Vegas, including the first two on his way to his first career Top 5 finish.
Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, $28,000
It was his first rodeo of the season and it was a lucrative one for Steiner in Fort Worth. He swept the opening two rounds of his bracket with an 87 and 86-point ride.
It was more of the same in the Semis, where Steiner was marked 90.5 points to win the round and secure a spot in the Finals.
He would save the best for last. Steiner posted one of the best rides of his career in the Finals, a 92.5-point ride on J Bar J’s Straight Jacket. The ride earned him $20,000 and in total, he walked away with $28,000.
San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, $17,750
It was as good of a start to the season as you could draw up for Steiner. After a win in Fort Worth, he headed to San Antonio where he would add another $17,000 to his season earnings.
Steiner earned over $5,000 in his bracket thanks to an 82.5-point ride, an 84.5-point ride, and an 88.5-point ride. Steiner did not earn a check in the Semis but still had enough money earned to move on to the Finals.
In the Finals, he tied Cole Reiner with an 89-point ride. The two earned $12,500 and Steiner’s earnings at the rodeo topped $17,000 in total.
After just two rodeos, Steiner sat No. 1 in the World, just ahead of Keenan Hayes.
The Calgary Stampede, $17,175
On three of his five rides in Calgary, Steiner was marked 88 points or more, ultimately saving his best for last with 90.5 for second in the Finals.
Steiner has had a ton of success at Canada’s biggest rodeo. He won the rodeo in his only other appearance in 2022.
Mountain Valley Stampede, $6,698
Steiner started his August with a bang at the Mountain Valley Stampede. He won the one-header with an 89.5-point ride on Two Buck Chuck. The ride earned him $6,700 as he continued his path toward the No. 1 rankings and that win helped him go from No. 4 to No. 2 in the first weekend of August.
Douglas County Fair and Rodeo, $6,698
After the Mountain Valley Stampede, Steiner headed to the Douglas County Rodeo where he earned another $6,700. Steiner was 90 points on Cafe Risque to win the rodeo and earn the big payday. It was not his only win or 90-point ride of the weekend, he also was first at the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo on The Cervi Brothers’ Womanizer.
Steiner lead all PRCA bareback riders with seven 90+ Point Rides during the regular season.
Governor’s Cup, $32,125
Steiner had a great beginning to the season and his season ended in similar fashion with a big win. He placed second at the Governor’s Cup and earned the second most of any bareback rider in the process.
In Round 1, he was No. 10 of the 12 bareback riders after an 81-point ride. He would need a big ride in the Second Round, and he delivered just that with an 86.5-point ride to tie for the Go-Round win.
In the Semis, Steiner won the round with an 89-point ride to lock in his spot in the Four-Man round. In the Finals, he would be marked 88 points, just a half point behind Jess Pope. Steiner placed second in the round and brought his earnings at the Governor’s Cup to over $32,000.
