Abby Phillips has had a storybook season that resulted in her first National Finals Rodeo qualification. With her number of wins totaling in the double digits, Phillips was a force to be reckoned with in 2024.
As for her horsepower to get there, Phillips has a mare she calls Andi Anderson and a gelding called Big P that she credits for helping her get to the famous alley of the Thomas & Mack.
The Texas cowgirl will enter Las Vegas as the No. 13 ranked barrel racer in the World with $115,510 to her name.
Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show and Rodeo, $5,114
In the spring, Phillips hustled to her first win of the season in Mercedes, Texas by over three tenths of a second. Her 15.32-second run would be the first of many big checks of the season to come and the tempo was set.
That next weekend came her second win at the Ellis county Stock Show and Rodeo after a time of 16.16 to yet again, be the fastest by exactly one tenth of a second.
Red Bluff Round-Up, $8,073
During the California Run, Phillips would cash in her biggest check of the regular season. A 17.38 put her fifth in Round 1 aboard Andi Anderson before the duo kicked it up a notch to win Round 2 with a 17.15.
Phillips found herself second in the Average and the string of success she had in California had her sitting No. 6 in the World at this point.
Fort Herriman PRCA Rodeo, $2,053
Phillips’ month of June got started with back-to-back wins in Utah. The first came in Herriman when her 17.27 was two tenths faster than her fellow first time NFR qualifier Ashley Castleberry.
This was followed up with a win in Moab the same weekend when a 14.59 was worth $1,520 and it all came after Andi Anderson took a one-month break.
Sisters Rodeo, $6,768
At one of Oregon’s most standout Columbia River Circuit rodeos, Phillips was faster than the rest once again. She clocked a 17.35 in tough competition to get this win by only one hundredth of a second over Megan McLeod-Sprague.
It was her second PRCA Playoff Series win of the year in addition to Mercedes and she would go on to win a third in Basin City, Washington.
Wainwright Stampede, $6,283
A swing to the great white north landed Phillips in the winner’s circle twice more and the first came in Wainwright, Alberta in another set of tough competition. Her 17.30 was only three hundredths of a second faster than Sidney Forrest.
Wainwright followed up Wainwright with success in Sundre. She remained won that rodeo with a 17.33 to beat out NFR barrel racer Jackie Ganter.
Phillips would also place this same week at the Guy Weadick Rodeo that weekend.
Basin City Freedom Rodeo, $5,515
Cowboy Christmas would bring another win by way of Washington. At the Basin City Freedom Rodeo, Phillips and Andi Anderson would set a new arena record after clocking a 16.83-second run.
She cashed in yet again over the busiest time of the season when she found herself finishing second at Eugene Pro Rodeo in Oregon over the Fourth of July as well.
