The timed events always add a little extra in Cheyenne because of the fresh cattle and the long score.
All nine teams that placed in the round had times between 10 and 15 seconds and it was Clay Smith/Jade Corkill who emerged victorious with a 10.2-second run. The next closest pair was Eric Martin/Ryon Tittel at 11 seconds flat.
Smith/Corkill were 11 seconds or faster on all three of their runs at the Cheyenne Frontier Days. It was the first time either cowboy has won Cheyenne.
“You kind of got to take the clock out of your head a little bit because when you’re going to the steer from that far back, your head is going faster so you have to really slow down a little bit,” Smith said.
“I like tradition in rodeo,” Corkill added. “To win something like this is pretty cool.”
Other notable pairs in the Finals included Jr. Dees/Matt Sherwood, Levi Simpson/Tyler Worley and Dustin Egusquiza/Travis Graves
