Best of First 50 Days: RC Landingham’s Matchup with C5 Rodeo’s Virgil was Worth the Wait

Bareback rider RC Landingham got the draw he has waited his entire career for.

RC Landingham is a four-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier and a veteran in the sport of bareback riding. He has watched legendary cowboys and rookies all get on the iconic gray of C5 Rodeo’s, Virgil, and this season it was his turn.

The first time he was matched up with Virgil was a a home-state rodeo in California, the Red Bluff Round-Up. Eight seconds later and Landingham put a 92.5-point ride on top of the leaderboard to cinch the win by five and a half points.

That win was followed up with what could be considered a career-high for the California bareback rider. He advanced to the Final Four at the greatest outdoor show on Earth, the Calgary Stampede. He picked Virgil while the other horses to choose from were Yippee Kibitz, Disco Party and Agent Lynx. Another eight seconds later and Landingham bested his Red Bluff score when a 94 won him the Calgary Stampede Bronze.

Landingham now sits No. 5 in the PRCA Bareback Riding World Standings and after waiting over a decade, he has finally had his matchups with Virgil and they were every bit as powerful as Landingham could have imagined.
