Blaise Bercegeay Won Josey Reunion First Go on Red Man Bay Clone

At the Josey Reunion, it was Mississippi cowgirl Blaise Bercegeay who got the win in the first go with a 16.339 second run.

With multiple horses entered, Bercegeay said her first run was like an exhibition and helped her figure out her approach to the first barrel.

“To be honest, I wasn’t expecting to win the round, but I finally got my first barrel pretty good. I had, I guess an exhibition on my first horse and got my angle to it right and my second barrel, I feel like we smoked it… he was running hard and I thought it worked out,” she said.

Her horse is a clone to Red Man Bay that she calls Douglas and he is a very special horse to Bercegeay and her family. She says that there are a lot of similarities between her horse and Red Man Bay including their attitude, the way they turn and their grit. After fracturing his hock three years ago, Bercegeay said Douglas came back as strong as ever.

Martha Josey ran Red Man Bay and she can see the similarities as well. She says that this is like a Cinderella story.Josey called on Bercegeay’s grandfather and they bought Red Man Bay. To top it off, Bercegeay started riding at Josey clinics when she was eight years old, she is now 27 and she has won the Josey Junior Worlds as well as the Reunion twice.

Bercegeay took two studs to the Josey Reunion this year and she captured the first go win on a special one.
