It is the first year the the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo has added breakaway to its events and Alli Masters is taking the Foster Communications Coliseum by storm.
She got faster in Round 2 after already leading Round 1 and that makes her No. 1 in the Average with a time of 4.4 seconds.
“It means a lot, to be winning a rodeo of this caliber, it means a lot. Hopefully it holds on pretty good,” Masters said.
Her consistency has made her the cowgirl to beat throughout the next six performances. She was a 2.3 and 2.1 to lead the Average by almost a full second. Masters entered the weekend No. 62 in the WPRA World Standings, but is now poised for massive jump.
Trailing Masters in the Average is young gun Josie Conner and the cowgirl that some might call the greatest of all time, Jackie Crawford. Conner roped a pair of 2.6s to be second in one round and third in the other. Meanwhile, Crawford put a 2.9 together in Round 1 to sit third and a 2.7-second run in Round 2 has her sitting fourth. She rounds out the Top 3 in the Average with a time of 5.6 seconds on two head.
Taylor Munsell bounced back and got herself a piece of Round 2 as she is tied with Masters for the current lead with a matching 2.1-second run after a no time in Round 1.
As with all the other events, the breakaway ropers are aiming to be inside the Top 12 and qualify back to the Final Round on Friday, April 19.
