After battling injury to both herself and her horse on her way to the 2023 Reserve World Championship, breakaway roper Hali Williams is healed up and better than ever.

In October 2023, Williams sustained a tear in the peroneus brevis tendon in her right ankle after her horse slipped while getting out of the trailer. She was put on bed rest and almost did not make it to the NFBR.

Not only was Williams recovering from an injury, but her main horse Redlight was as well. Redlight was dealing with back issues and luckily made a quick recovery.

After resting her ankle over the Winter Run, Williams finally feels good and has taken July by storm. At the beginning of the month, she was No. 15 in the World. She is now at No. 8 thanks to her success and earnings of nearly $30,000 last month alone.

“Definitely so many things I learned throughout getting hurt, you know you learn where your focus needs to be in certain aspects,” Williams said. ‘The injury kind of made me stop and sit there and evaluate what I was doing and why I’m out here.”
