Some unforeseen health issues will cause eight-time WPRA World Champion Lari Dee Guy to miss six more weeks of rodeo.
Guy recently returned to competition after being sidelined by shoulder surgery.
The breakaway roper is currently ranked No. 33 in the world and has qualified for each of the first three National Finals Breakaway Ropings.
Guy wrote on Instagram that she would do everything she could to advocate for the sport while she was not competing. She was inspired to step up after being disappointed in the “scarcity mentality” she saw among her fellow breakaway ropers.
“Now I cannot wait to be back on the road and in the arena, but while I’m out, I’m going to be focusing on doing what I can from the sidelines—cheering from the bench—to help this sport to continue to flourish,” Guy wrote. “The ladies who get to nod their heads every day? I need them to remember that they’re shooting to be heroes: with the sportsmanship, class and grace that we want to convey to future breakaway ropers, fans, sponsors, producers and committees far and wide.”
