Breakaway Roping to Have Equal Payout at Cheyenne Frontier Days

The Cheyenne Frontier Days announced on Western Sports Round-Up that Breakaway Ropers will compete for an equal payout at the 2021 rodeo. In 2019, breakaway roping was added to the rodeo for the first time, and the ropers were competing for a $10,000 prize pool. That changes in 2021 as the athletes will compete for their share of $67,000.

Cheyenne Frontier Days CEO, Tom Hirsig joined WSR to talk about the decision.

“Our event was so well received, the demand for watching those girls breakaway rope at Cheyenne Frontier Days, even from the most diehard and avid five-event rodeo fans they just loved the breakaway roping. The rodeo committee really felt like there is no reason these girls should not be on the same level as everybody else.”

The $67,000 added is equal to every other event at the rodeo.
