By the numbers: Jacob Talley sits No. 1 in the Steer Wrestling World Standings

Jacob Talley is sitting No. 1 in the world and he’s doing thanks in large part to winning $50,000 at RFD-TV’s The American.

However, he is also getting it done with remarkable consistency. He just won the Matagorda County Rodeo in Bay City, Texas and his 38 qualified attempts are tied for the most in all of the ProRodeo.

Additionally, Talley’s 15 runs of 4.2 seconds or less is ranked fourth in the world. Talley has reached that mark on just 47 attempts in 2021, compared to 2020, when he had 19 runs of 4.2 seconds or faster on 84 attempts.

Talley, who entered the Wrangler NFR in second last season and finished seventh in the world, is on pace to have the highest qualified time percentage (81 percent) of his career.

The Louisiana cowboy has earned $72,250 this season which puts him about $26,000 ahead of second-place Tyler Pearson. Talley’s lead is currently the second largest in any event in ProRodeo and in addition his win in Bay City, he has also won checks of $1,000 or more at the Guymon Pioneer Days, Clovis Rodeo and John W. Jones Memorial Steer Wrestling in Clovis in the last three weeks.

Talley has made the NFR the last three even numbered years - 2016, 2018 and 2020.
