California Rodeo Salinas returned to its traditional slot at the end of July after serving as the ProRodeo Tour Finale in 2021.
Every event had a Short Round on Sunday and the winner was determined by an Average. The roughstock cowboys had two head, the steer wrestlers had three, tie-down ropers, barrel racers and breakaway ropers had four and team ropers had five.
In bareback riding, R.C. Landingham was first in the Long Round and second in the Short Round to claim the title with 172 points on two. Cole Reiner was second with 171 and Cole Franks was third with 168.5. Landingham has moved up four spots in the World Standings sits July 6 and is now No. 7 after winning close to $13,000 in Salinas.
In steer wrestling, Bridger Anderson won Round 1 and the Finals. He had an aggregate time of 19.2 seconds to win the rodeo by 1.5 seconds.
Rhen Richard/Jeremy Buhler won over $10,000 apiece for taking home the title in the team roping and both cowboys are now in the Top 5 in their respective events. Kaleb Driggers/Junior Nogueira, who are both No. 1 in the world, finished second.
Tanner Butner went from No. 20 to No. 15 by winning nearly $11,000 in Salinas. Butner won the Finals with 88.5 points on Corey & Lange’s Cypress Toddy. Butner also split second in the Long Round.
Hunter Herrin won the tie-down roping after placing in two of three rounds. He took home about $11,500 and about $7,000 of that came from winning the Average. Herrin is now No. 16 in the World Standings after beginning the week outside the Top 20.
In barrel racing, Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi win Round 1 and the Finals to edge out Bayleigh Choate by less than two tenths of a second on aggregate.
In bull riding, just two cowboys covered both of their bulls. Lucas Mooningham was 170.5 on two and Colton Byram, who won the Finals, was second with 166.
Finally, Shelby Bosijoli won the breakaway roping with consistency. She placed in all three rounds, but never better than third, to win the rodeo with an aggregate time of 14 seconds on three head. Alex Loiselle was two tenths behind Boisjoli.
