Canadian Finals Rodeo: Preview, Format and How to Watch

The rosters are set for the 50th Canadian Finals Rodeo which begins October 2 and runs through October 5. The rodeo takes place at the Rogers Place in Edmonton throughout five performances that will take place over four days.

FORMAT

The Top 12 money earners in each event will compete in the Finals, which take place over five performances with over $1 million paid out across eight different events. The winner of each Go-Round will take home more about $11,000 each night and athletes who win the CFR Average will win more than $16,000.

What to Watch For

Orin Larsen Misses NFR, has Big Opportunity at Canadian Finals Rodeo

Orin Larsen is the biggest name to watch in the Bareback Riding and enters No. 1 in the Bareback Canadian Rodeo Standings. He has $34,749 earned in Canada this year and is just over $1,000 ahead of Clint Laye who is No. 2 in the Canadian standings. Laye is looking for his third Canadian Finals Bareback Championship. Larsen just missed out on competing at the 2024 NFR, falling $1,000 short of the No. 15 spot.

Zeke Thruston Looking to win Fifth CFR Title and Third Straight

Thurston has dominated both the PRCA and the Canadian Rodeo over the last handful of years. He is looking for his third straight CFR title and fifth overall. Thurston enters the CFR as the No. 2 Saddle Bronc Rider in the Canadian Rodeo standings. He is $3,000 behind Lucas Mazca who has earned over $38,000 up north this year.

Scott Guenthner Looks for Third Straight CFR Title

Scott Guenthner, like Zeke Thurston, is looking for his third straight CFR title. He enters the rodeo under $1,000 behind Ryan Shuckburgh who has made $39,241 on the season. Guenthner is No. 15 in the PRCA World Standings and looks to be heading to his fifth NFR this December, pending any last-minute changes to the standings once they become official.
