The PRCA Playoff Series rolled into Oregon for the Canby Rodeo, a one-header in the roughstock events, barrel racing and breakaway and a two-head Average for timed events.
A trio of past World Champions - Clayton Biglow, Ryder Wright and Shane Hanchey - left Canby as champions this year.
Biglow matched up with The Calgary Stampede’s Yippee Kibbitz and rode for 90.5 points, matching the exact score he had when he last rode her to victory in Pool A, Round 1 of the 2022 Calgary Stampede. The win was one of three for Biglow over the weekend, which earned him Exmark Roughtock Athlete of the Week.
In saddle bronc riding, Ryder Wright’s post-injury resurgence continued as he picked up one of his two PRCA Playoff wins over the weekend in Canby. He was 89 points aboard Calgary’s Amazon Hills to best Q Taylor by a point. Wright jumped from No. 12 to No. 8 in the PRCA World Standings.
And in tie-down roping, Shane Hanchey was 16.1 seconds on two, placing second in both rounds to win the Average by more than two seconds. Hanchey is up to No. 3 in the world.
Other winners of the 2023 Canby Rodeo were Levi Rudd in steer wrestling (7.6 seconds on two), Shay Dixon Carroll/Max Kuttler in team roping (10.0 seconds on two), Ashley Castleberry in barrel racing (16.19 seconds) and Canyon Bass in bull riding (87 points).
