Following the Christmas break after the conclusion of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, we checked in with Stetson Wright — the 2020 All-Around and Bull Riding World Champion.
It’s been a big year for Stetson Wright.
After qualifying for his first NFR in the bull riding and winning his first All-Around title in 2019, serious injury and the early shutdown of rodeo in the 2020 season created huge obstacles for the young athlete. Yet, he was able to prevail, qualifying not only in the bull riding but also in the saddle bronc riding this year at his second NFR, where round after round, he not only accrued some large checks but also two more gold buckles.
In the saddle bronc riding, Stetson placed in six of the ten rounds, winning two, one of which he split the win with brother Ryder, and earning more than $96,500. He also placed in six rounds in the bull riding, winning four of them, for which he pocketed more than $142,000, and placed second in the average for an additional $32,700. In total, the youngest of saddle bronc legend Cody Wright’s sons to be competing at the NFR earned more than $365,000 throughout the 10 days.
On last night’s Western Sports Round-Up, we caught us up with Stetson, who talked all about his 2020 NFR, the competition this year, regaining his confidence, being a mentor as a professional athlete, competing with his brothers — and, breaking news, who he will be traveling with in 2021.
