Sage Kimzey joined Steve Kenyon on Road to Texas! last week to update fans on how he’s been following the end of the 2020 ProRodeo season and how he’s preparing for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in December — when the reigning World Champion and No. 1 man in the bull riding will defend his title and fight for his seventh consecutive gold buckle.
Sage talks about how he’s feeling, the difficult 2020 season, and growing up as the son of a rodeo clown, all while looking back at his performances and favorite rides from his first NFR in 2014 to his sixth win in 2019.
On the key to becoming a successful bull rider, Sage says that staying uninjured and able to compete is first and foremost. “I think that’s the first thing all of these rodeo schools should teach these young kids is how to get off and how to get away. It’s not usually when you’re on top in the middle of one that something goes awry; it’s usually when you get under them, and feet hurt, for sure. Staying healthy is the name of the game in our sport.”
