The Cheyenne Frontier Days are the summer’s second highest paying rodeo and Championship Sunday delivered wins for World Champions and underdogs alike.

Denton Good Gets Career-Changing Win in Steer Wrestling

The 20-year-old South Dakota had made less than $1,500 on the year and had zero checks of more than $1,000 before winning his Quarterfinal, Semifinal and the Short Round to notch a stunning victory with his dad hazing for him.

Good sealed the deal with a 6.5-second run in the Finals and left with close to $13,000. He entered the 2024 Cheyenne Frontier Days with less than $10,000 in total career earnings.

Shad Mayfield Adds CFD Buckle Before Taking a Rest

Mayfield announced prior to Cheyenne that he would be taking some time off at the conclusion of the rodeo to get his torn larbums in both hips healed and he went out by roping as well as he possibly could.

The No. 1 tie-down roper in the World won all three rounds he competed in outright and banked more than $16,000 along the way. If he chooses to come back before the conclusion of the regular season, he has a good chance to break Riley Webb’s regular season earnings record.

“I know what I can do, I’ve been battling things, but this whole year has been God,” he said.

TJ Gray Caps Best Week of Career With Victory at The Daddy of ‘em All

On Tuesday of last week, 23-year-old TJ Gray won the Utah Day of ’47 Rodeo with 85.5 points and he did himself better Sunday in Cheyenne with 90 on Smith Pro Rodeos’ No Doze to win both of the week’s two biggest rodeos to close July.

Gray was a perfect 3-for-3 in Cheyenne to win more than $10,000. He is currently No. 7 in the World Standings.

“It feels real good when you’re on a streak like I’m on now,” he said. “I sure am happy (that the good times are here).

Other champions in Cheyenne included Clay Jorgenson in bareback riding (90 points), Hayes Smith/Justin Davis in team roping (8.3 seconds), Logan Cook in saddle bronc riding (90 points), Shelby Boisjoli-Meged in breakaway roping (3.7 seconds), and Jordon Briggs in barrel racing (17.06 seconds).
