Cheyenne Wimberley on racing in tight setups and making sure you have the right horse

Cheyenne Wimberley is leading the pack for barrel racers. She made the last chance qualifier for The American at Cowtown Coliseum with a time of 13.7 with Streaking Images.

Streaking Images belongs to Liz Prickett, but Wimberley has been riding her for almost three years. Wimberley says that this mare thrives on smaller patterns.

“She likes small arenas, things that let her have some fences to turn off of. So, we thought we would give her a try over there [Cowtown Coliseum],” Wimberley said.

She goes on to say, “I always say that this arena [Cowtown Coliseum] and maybe the NFR are hard to replicate because this arena here, the ally is really long and the first barrel you can’t see until you kind of top the hill there. Sometimes it makes you overshoot the first barrel... She [Streaking Images] had been really wanting to work, so I just had in my mind just to try to stay clean. I kinda overshot the first barrel a little bit so I figured she was going to come back... I just knew how fast she was, if you can get around them you’re probably going to clock pretty good.”
