Clay Smith and Coleby Payne proved themselves as the ones to watch in the world of team roping this season by dominating the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.
The team secured a 4.5-second run in the Finals, securing the title inside Dickies Arena.
“Honestly, when we have to be pretty aggressive is when we do our best. I knew we had a good enough steer that if we make out good run everything’s going to happen fast and be good enough,” Payne said.
After advancing out of Bracket 7, they showcased their skills as a duo in Semifinals A, finishing a close second to Cole Thomas and Dylin Ahlstrom with with a time of 4.8 seconds.
Smith and Payne both pocketed $25,000 in winnings for the rodeo, positioning the team for a promising season as they secure the top spots in the PRCA World Standings.
