Cody Wright is the oldest son of Bill and Evelyn Wright, and he re-lit a fire for the sport of rodeo when he found his dad’s old gear in the attic.
He went on to be an all-around hand, taking home the Utah High School All-Around and saddle bronc titles in 1996. Cody figured out that saddle bronc riding was the event for him and he attended the College of Southern Idaho, where his coach was three-time Saddle Bronc Riding World Champion Shawn Davis.
The year of 2003 would be the first of 13 National Finals Rodeo qualifications for Cody and his first Gold Buckle would come five years later in 2008. That year was a race between him and Billy Etbauer and it came down to $43,000. His second Gold Buckle came in 2010 by more narrow margins when he beat Wade Sundell by less than $23,000.
Cody joined an elite group of cowboys in 2013 when he became the 20th cowboy to cross the $2 million in career earnings mark.
One thing Cody has undoubtedly inspired are his brothers and his sons and now, there is what some call the Wright Dynasty of saddle bronc riding. A record was set in 2016 when five Wright’s qualified for the NFR in the saddle bronc riding. Today, you still see his brothers Spencer, Jesse and Stuart on the road along with all four of his sons, Rusty, Ryder, Stetson and Statler. The Wrights are raking in World Titles and the one who started it all, Cody, has added ProRodeo Hall of Fame member to his long list of accomplishments.
