Coleman Proctor Reflects on Winning $1 Million at the American and Talks Game Plan to do it Again

Team roper Coleman Proctor was one half of a $1 million team in 2019.

In 2019, Coleman Proctor and Ryan Motes became the first team roping duo to claim the $1 million from the richest one day rodeo in the World, the American Rodeo.

“Man, I tell you what, just the memories and the moments of being on that stage for that amount of money in front of the world, I mean, that was so much fun. And probably one of the coolest times was, the day we left to go up to AT&T Stadium, [Ryan Motes] had a gate that he had to feed his cows through and you had to Austin Powers tractor through it and he said ‘man, when we split that million, changing this gate’ and to my knowledge I dont think he’s changed that gate,” Proctor said.

It was a special day thanks to laying it all on the line and throwing a haymaker kind of loop. As far as doing it again, Proctor’s game plan for the American depends on the format until the four-man.

“Any time you’ve got $1 million on the line you’re going to try to roll the barrier out of the latch and be as fast as you possibly can. And you know how competitive this deal is all the way around. Anybody can beat you on any given day,” he said.

The goal is to walk away as the American Champion when the dust settles and Proctor is gearing up to do it all over again.
