The San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo is a place where the young guns shined. Among them, Coleman Shallbetter added his own 90-point ride to the board when he split the Final Go-Round win after a matchup with Pickett Pro Rodeo’s Bill Fick Ford’s Top Egyption.
“You know, that was horse was awesome. We got to go up there and pick our horses before the Short Round and kind of had a list built in my head of what I was going to get on and Layton [Green] kind of got the one I was shooting for but I think all the cards fell where they needed to,” Shallbetter said.
Top Egyption was Shallbetter’s second pick on the list and one he hopes they keep on the bronc side as the Pickett bucking horses is talented in the bareback as well.
With $45,000 already to his name, Shallbetter leads the Permit Standings and if he continues at this pace, he will set a new record just like fellow Colorado cowboy and bareback riding World Champion Keenan Hayes did during his permit year.
“I just try to have a good mindset. I’ve got a lot of good guys in my life that keep my mind positive and they’re all super talented bronc riders so they just keep us all motivated,” he said.
Shallbetter will stay on his permit this year with a game plan of rodeo and fun.
