Crooked River Roundup: Preview, Format and How to Watch

The Crooked River Roundup gets underway on June 20 and gives athletes a chance to compete for their share of nearly $200,000. Here is what you can expect as you watch the rodeo from Prineville, Oregon.

FORMAT

The Crooked River Roundup is a simple format to understand. In roughstock events, the highest score on one head wins. In timed events, other than barrel racing, athletes compete in two rounds over the course of the three-day rodeo, and the fastest on two is crowned champion. In rarrel racing, cowgirls are given one opportunity to post the fastest time and be crowned champ.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

Performance 1 (June 20)

Thursday night is headlined by the No. 1 man in the bareback riding, Keenan Hayes. Hayes currently holds a small lead over Coop Cooke and Leighton Berry in the World Standings.

Others riding in the opening performance are Mason Clements, Richmond Champion, Dean Thompson, Cole Franks, and Rocker Steiner - all of whom have mad the NFR in the last two years.

In the barrel racing, 2022 World Champion Jordon Briggs competes for just the sixth time this season.

Performance 2 (June 21)

Performance 2 features a handful of great bull riders. World No. 1 Creek Young headlines the daysheet alongside Chase Dougherty, who has been one of the hottest bull riders in the World of late. Lukasey Morris, Roscoe Jarboe, Wacey Schalla, and Trey Kimzey are also riding.

Performance 3 (June 22)

The big name in performance three is Josh Frost in the bull riding. Frost is No. 4 in the Bull Riding World Standings. Riding alongside Frost is Deklan Garland, Trevor Reiste, and Ruger Piva.

Meanwhile, World No. 1 Damian Breannan heads to the Crooked River Roundup for the third time having won money in each of his first two appearances.
