Dalton Massey Wins Round 5 to Win First Canadian Steer Wrestling Title

Massey will enter the NFR No. 1 again after winning the bulldogging in Canada

Dalton Massey used four runs of 4.1 seconds or faster over five rounds to capture the Canadian Steer Wrestling Title for the first time in his career.

Massey entered his second career CFR ranked No. 5 in the CPRA Standings, trailing the regular season leader Landon Beardsworth by about $8,500. However, after winning two rounds and placing second and third in two others, he earned nearly $40,000 in Edmonton.

Massey sealed his victory with a 3.9-second run to win Round 5.

“I’m just lucky to be here and to ride a great horse,” he said. “There are a lot of great people up here (in Canada), and it worked out for me this week.”

Brenden Laye won the average and about $36,000 at the CFR, finishing second overall with $62,494, about $8,000 behind Massey. Two of Canada’s most decorated steer wrestlers, Cody Cassidy and Scott Guenthner, placed third and fourth in the final CPRA standings.
