Dean Thompson Sets Pool C Bar in Calgary Aboard C5 Rodeo’s Flap Jack

The No. 3 ranked bareback rider in the World gets things rolling at the Calgary Stampede.

Dean Thompson is having the best regular season of his career and that includes his performance in Round 1 of his pool at the Calgary Stampede. An 87-point ride on C5 Rodeo’s Flap Jack put Thompson in the No. 1 spot to get money in his pockets on Day 1.

“Yeah, what an awesome horse and you know, this is supposed to kind of be the hopper pen where we’re all supposed to do real well, that thing felt a little bit more than I thought. It feels amazing though to have one really hitting you in the back like that, be able to tough it out and make a ride like that, it feels great, ready for these next two rounds,” Thompson said.

The C5 bronc is one that has gotten better with every out and Thompson’s win sets him up with $7,000 going into Round 2, he is already $6,500 better off than he was after the greatest outdoor show on earth in 2023.

Jacob Lees ended up No. 2 in the Go-Round with Lane McGehee and Garrett Shadbolt rounding out the Top 4 in the first round.
