Emily Beisel is a six-time National Finals Rodeo barrel racer but RodeoHouston is one that has eluded the Oklahoma cowgirl’s list of accolades.
“It’s a tough rodeo. It’s been very challenging. To be totally honest, I’ve only made it out of my Super Set twice. So that tells you how tough Houston is. It takes a horse that really wants to hunt the barrels, is super honest,” Beisel said.
With top caliber equine power loaded in her trailer, Beisel will run Chewy in Houston this year as their first run back since last season.
“Chewy had actually been second there with Molly Otto and so I am super excited becasue she loves Houston. I’ve never really had a horse that craves that rodeo unfortunately, and we’ve tried. We’ve had some round wins and stuff but we’ve never been able to be consistent so knowing I’ve got the horsepower this year, this will be Chewy and I’s first run back since the NFR... we are so excited to be headed south on Sunday,” Beisel said.
Super Series 3 will look like a round in Las Vegas as Jordon Briggs, LaTricia Duke, Kassie Mowry are just three on the list next to Beisel. It is a set that leaves room for zero mistakes.
“To know that we’ve got to survive that just to advance basically tells me no mistakes. I have to go out there and be sharp and consistent right off the bat,” she said.
This year’s RodeoHouston has increased the payout making it even more of a rodeo that can set up an athletes season. Beisel and Chewy are looking to capitalize on that.
