Ernie Courson sustained a major injury on April 19 at the Red Bludd Round-Up in California.

The 31-year-old Bull Rider took a horn to the midsection, which resulted in broken fifth and sixth rib and a severely bruised lung that was completely collapsed.

Courson told ProRodeo.com that his life was saved by the paramedics who relieved the pressure in his chest cavity on the way to the hospital.

Courson has earned nearly $30,000 this season and is hoping to be back on the rodeo trail after two months of recovery.
