Five bull riders clear $100,000 mark thanks to big checks in July

The race for the top of the PRCA Bull Riding World Standings has required every elite rider to bring it each and every rodeo because five cowboys have already banked six figures in 2021.

Sage Kimzey, Stetson Wright, Josh Frost, JB Mauney and Clayton Sellars have been dominating most of the season, but they’ve been especially dominant since July 14.

Mauney leads the way since that date with more than $36,000 banked, which included $11,023 from his 91-point ride on Flight Risk to win the Spanish Fork Fiesta days and another $12,500 from winning the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo on Space Unicorn.

Kimzey, who is No. 1 in the world, is second among the bunch since the middle of July. He also won $11,023 for sharing the title with Mauney in Spanish Fork. Additionally, Kimzey also earned more than $6,400 for his win in Ogden the same weekend.

Josh Frost has also cleared the $30,000 mark since July 14 and has climbed all the way up to No. 3 with a very slim lead over Mauney. Frost has ridden five of his last six bulls and took home wins at The Mountain Valley Stampede (Utah) and The Douglas County Fair and Rodeo (Colorado) this past weekend. Both earned him checks of about $3,300.

Clayton Sellars has been the fourth-highest earner since July 14 as the Florida native looks for his third consecutive Wrangler NFR. Sellars earned big checks thanks to a second place finish in Castle Rock, Colorado behind Frost as well as taking third in the Spanish Fork Xtreme Bulls behind Mauney and Kimzey. He also finished third in the Average at the Snake River Stampede (Idaho) which ended July 24 and made the Championship Round at Pikes Peak on July 17.

Reigning World Champion Stetson Wright rounds out the top earners of late. His best performance of late was a second-place finish at the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo.
