Barrel racers in Canada had a unique and huge opportunity that has never existed before, a chance to qualify for the Calgary Stampede at the historic Daines Ranch in Alberta.
Each cowgirl made three runs and the Top 5 in the average advanced to Canada’s most prestigious rodeo.
Lacey Caldas and her mount Foxy were fifth with a time of 48.093 on three, Celste Montpellier was fourth with a total time of 48.042. Montpellier decided to enter only two hours beforehand and now she’s going to Calgary. In third was Vanessa Leggett, who was 48.023 overall and 15.968 in the Short Round and in second was Val Gillepsie. Gillepsie was 15.917 on the Short Round on her horse Murphy.
Finally, Toni Dixon, who helped put the event together, qualified in first place. She was 47.891 on three.
