Four Star Rodeo’s Davis Family Embraces Rodeo Roots Through Every Generation

Stock contractor Jeff Davis married his high school sweetheart, Teri, 40 years ago. They both grew up around rodeo, they raised their kids around rodeo and now, their grandkids are growing up in an arena and on horseback too.

“It’s pretty cool that the whole family tree, on both sides, is all involved in the sport of rodeo. So we just got to keep it going,” Jeff said.

It is all one big family at the Davis household. From cousins, to friends that turned into family, it is never empty. Justin Davis, Jeff and Teri’s son and 2009 NFR team roper, looks back at growing up on the ranch and says part of what made it special was how close everyone was. Kyle Davis, Broc Cresta, Spencer Mitchell and Russell Cardoza are just a few of the cowboys that spent time growing up together on the ranch.

“We all loved to rope everyday together and we were homeschooled through high school and so we would travel around and go to jackpots and amateur rodeos and it was just, everyday was the best day of your life,” Justin said. “You got to have so much fun doing that stuff and being successful doing it too.”

Justin credits his grandfather, Cecil, for teaching him how to be a cowboy. No matter rain or shine, the two roped everyday to add to the memories and family roots on the Ranch. His grandfather is just one of the many family influences that Justin has.

“I was spoiled when I was young, and still am, to have a grandfather like him,” he said. “He’s a true cowboy.....He lives and breathes roping.”

The Davis family continues to add to the rodeo family tree as the young kids today try their hands at roping and following in the family footsteps.
