The Guymon Pioneer Days begins Friday and runs through May 7th. It will feature some of the best rodeo athletes in the world as they compete for their share of nearly $100,000.
Here is a breakdown of what you can expect from Oklahoma over the weekend.
Format
The rodeo is a simple one to follow. In roughstock events, it is a one header with the highest score taking home the title. In 2022 there were two 90-point rides. One from eventual World Champion, Jess Pope, who went 92 points on Gun Fire to win the rodeo, and one by Bull Rider Garrett Smith who was 91 points on Gladiator’s Hammer.
In Timed Events, there are three rounds in Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, and Tie-Down Roping, in Barrel Racing there are two rounds. Round winners will earn a check and the champion will be the fastest on average.
