Haven Meged Re-Writes Record Book and Wins Second Straight Canadian Tie-Down Roping Title

Meged had an up-and-down week that ended with another title

Haven Meged tied or broke the arena record twice over five rounds at the Rogers Centre in Edmonton.

He posted a time of 7.0 seconds in Round 2, which matched the arena record, and an even faster 6.8 seconds in Round 4, on his way to claiming his second consecutive Canadian Championship.

“I messed up big in Round 3, so I knew I had nothing to lose,” he said after his Round 4 performance. "(The game plan) fell apart last night, but this afternoon was good.”

Meged followed with a 10.3-second run in Round 5 and admitted he didn’t perform as well as he’d hoped. However, the $12,000 buffer he had built going into the round was enough to hold off the competition.

He finished the CPRA season with $65,172 in earnings, about $1,000 ahead of Shane Hanchey. Meged earned $27,608 over five rounds, with $22,200 coming from his two round wins.
