Ivy Conrado Saebens back with JLo, Looking Stronger than Ever

Ivy Conrado Saebens joins Western Sports Roundup to talk about her 2020 year and JLo’s health scare, and how it feels to be back competing with her best friend.

The unfortunate treatment error that resulted in JLo’s lungs being flooded, causing major health problems, occurred back in August. “We weren’t sure if she was ever going to make it back to be able to run,” says Ivy. “Lungs are super unstable and you don’t really know how they’re going to recover, so we’re really excited.”

Ivy and JLo made their first run back mid December. “I don’t think I’d been that nervous since round nine at the NFR last year,” Ivy says. " it was definitely emotional — it was emotional for me, it was emotional for her owners.”

“For her to come back, her first two runs back from nearly dying, and compete with the horses that were in the top 10, or even in the top 20, in Texas, I was really proud of her,” Ivy says. “I couldn’t have asked any more of her. I didn’t ask her for all she’s got; I just kind of let her pick her speed of what she’d be comfortable with, and that’s what she chose.”

After stopping the clock at 14.01 seconds this week in Odessa, the pair got the win. Conrado-Saebens won $7,522.
