In his first NFR qualification, Jacob Edler jumped from sixth to first in the final Go-Round to win the steer wrestling Gold Buckle.
Edler used a 3.9-second run in Round 10 to place fourth in the round, but most importantly jump to first in the average.
“My thoughts were, I knew it was going to be a one-hitter,” he said. “I wasn’t the favorite coming into today. I was a little bit of an underdog coming into today. I knew that I really needed to take as much start as I could at that steer and have everything line out perfectly, and it ended up lining out perfectly.
EDLER’S ROUND 10 RUN
Stetson Jorgensen, who entered the Go-Round as the projected Gold Buckle winner and No. 1 in the average, was 5 seconds flat on his run to lose the average to Edler by just four-tenths of a second.
“Stetson’s such a great competitor, he got a little bit of a bad draw today. I am ever-so grateful for him letting me ride his horse. Without Stetson Jorgensen, there is no way I could ever have done this,” Edler said. “I told him, ‘Thank you so much. Thank you for being a friend. One of these gold buckles is headed your way. You bulldog way too good not to have one.’”
Edler won about $155,000 at the Wrangler NFR and finishes the 2020 season with $200,510. He edged Jorgensen, who finished second in the world, by about $2,000 in the final standings.
Tyler Waguespack finished third in the world and Matt Reeves, who entered the Wrangler NFR No. 1, was fourth.
