No. 3 ranked saddle bronc rider Brody Cress and The Cowboy Channel’s Jeff Medders discussed the Top 4 saddle broncs in the PRCA on Tuesday’s Road to NFR.
“Those stock contractors, they work so hard from the time those colts are born, to waiting to see what they’re going to be like and then hauling them up and down the road,” Cress said. “Genetics are getting better every year and this year we had such a great selection it was hard to pick the Horse of the Year.”
The finalists were Flying 5 and Big Bend Rodeo’s Kool Toddy, Andrews Rodeo All or Nothin, Calgary Stampede’s Wild Cherry and Korkow’s Onion Ring. Onion Ring was the top vote-getter with 23.
“Onion Ring is a horse that I love being able to get on,” Cress said. “They buck that horse so much every year and every trip gives you a chance to be in the 90s.
Cress also said that with advances in genetics in the bronc riding world over the last five years, he expects to have a lot more horses that will guys will be able to be in the high 80s on consistently in the coming years.
