Jess Pope and Bailey Pro Rodeo’s Warning Shot Stack Up for Round 1 Win in San Antonio

World Champion Bareback Rider Jess Pope hits the gas in San Antonio.

Jess Pope matched up with a young horse of Bailey Pro Rodeo’s, Warning Shot, to set the bar in Bracket 5 of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo. The 86.5-point ride is the highest marked ride on the horse in his two-year career so far and it was a nice trip to get things started for Pope at Frost Bank Center.

“Yeah, no it was. That’s a nice little horse... I think if it weighed about 1,000 more pounds, it’s a little bitty thing, it’d really be able to buck. It tries to buck big being little,” Pope said.

Warning Shot is proof of just how tight-knit the rodeo world really is as Pope learned when the ride was done that the bucking horse was raised by none other than saddle bronc rider Sage Newman and his family.

The Go-Round win has Pope entering Round 2 with $2,626 already to his name. His Round 2 matchup is with Cervi Championship Rodeo’s Own Up Vitalix, a horse that Donny Proffit rode for 85.5 points earlier in San Antonio.
