Barrel racer Jordon Briggs was the only cowgirl to not hit a single barrel at the 2021 NFR and it helped her win her first World Championship and win the Average.
Briggs’ mother, Kristie Peterson, won four WPRA World Titles in the barrel racing from 1994-1998.
“I didn’t think that a family could have anymore World Champions than my mom already has,” Briggs said.
Briggs broke a 10-head record with an aggregate time of 136.8 and was more than eight seconds faster than Molly Otto, who finished second in the Average. Briggs won Rounds 8 and 9 and placed in every one except Round 4, which was the only time she was not faster than 13.9 seconds.
It took until Round 10 for Briggs to officially edge Hailey Kinsel, who had won the previous three WPRA Barrel Racing World Championships.
It was not just Briggs who finished on top of the world this year. Her her horse Rollo did as well. He was named the 2021 Barrel Racing Horse of the Year. Briggs says he did not hit a barrel the entire rodeo season.
“I wish I could bring my horse up here, he just makes me look really good,” she said. “I had the Average in mind, that was a goal, but to be a World Champion is beyond.”
