Josie Conner Goes to No. 1 in the World after Ellensburg Rodeo Win

Josie Conner closed the gap between her and Jackie Crawford with success in Washington.

Adding to the electric Short Go in Ellensburg was one of Louisiana’s top breakaway ropers, Josie Conner, who won the rodeo with three consistent and smooth runs. The Ellensburg win added $10,000 to her season earnings helping her surpass Jackie Crawford to take over the No. 1 spot in the WPRA World Standings.

“A lot of that confidence comes from my horse. I wasn’t roping to try to beat three flat or not beat it. I just was trying to make the best run I can and my horse puts me in that position almost every time,” Conner said.

The two-time National Finals Breakaway Roping qualifier is looking at her third trip to Las Vegas and going into No. 1 is what she says is one of the biggest accomplishments in rodeo.

“There’s a lot of year left so we’re just going to keep the gas on and do what we can do and let them total it up at the end of December,” she said.

Conner entered Ellensburg just $2,000 out of the No. 1 spot in the World. A time of 7.8 seconds on three head results in a pretty pay day, the Ellensburg title and that No. 1 spot for the cowgirl.
