Kade Sonnier Looks Back At His Journey to First National Finals Rodeo

As he currently sits No. 3 in the PRCA Bareback Riding World Standings, rookie Kade Sonnier was destined for greatness as he follows in the footsteps of his father and National Finals Rodeo Saddle Bronc Rider, Joey Sonnier.

Sonnier mounted his first bucking horse just three short years ago, and in 2023, he made the decision to purchase his PRCA Card. Sonnier acknowledges the cowboys who surrounded him, such as three time World Champion Tim O’Connell, for their guidance and instrumental role in getting him to where he is today.

From the time he was a child Sonnier knew his dream was to be a cowboy and in the past three years, his unwavering commitment, relentless effort and the encouragement of his family and fellow athletes have transformed his dream into a remarkable reality.

Sonnier initially embarked on his journey in college sports by playing baseball at Nicholls State University. However, when a career ending injury struck, Sonnier decided to pursue his dream of one day competing under the lights of the Thomas and Mack.

With $160,469 in total earnings for the regular season, Sonnier sits within the Top 3 of the PRCA World Standings and No. 2 in the Resistol Rookie Race just behind Colorado cowboy Kennan Hayes. Both rookies will make their way to Las Vegas this December with their eyes on the Resistol Rookie of the Year Title and a Gold Buckle.
