Kelsie Domer entered the National Finals Breakaway Roping as the No. 4 ranked cowgirl, part of a fierce race among six contenders separated by less than $16,000.
By the end of the Finals, Domer had claimed the World Title with $168,758, outpacing Martha Angelone by a slim $3,000. All five of the top finishers in the WPRA World Standings earned more than $157,000 during the season.
“Honestly growing up, I never dreamed of this because it really wasn’t a thing for us. I was young, and I was naïve. I didn’t know much about the WPRA. I rodeoed in junior high and high school and college is really when I learned about it and that’s when dreams kind of changed. Still even then it wasn’t this. Yes, we wanted this, but we had not got to dream about it because it wasn’t a thing,” Domer told ProRodeo.com. “This is cool to see how much has changed over the years and it is going to be cool to see if my little girl wants to do it she can dream of it starting today.”
Domer’s exceptional run at the NFBR brought in $35,000, thanks in large part to her Average win. With nine clean runs and an aggregate of 22.0 seconds, she dominated the field, finishing nine seconds ahead of the nearest competitor.
“It’s always difficult roping all 10, especially against these other 14 girls, there was some amazing roping,” she said. “It was a fun two days.”
Domer has now won 10 WPRA World Titles, including three straight breakaway crowns from 2017-2019. This, however, is he first Gold Buckle in the NFBR era.
