Kenny Call is the 1978 World Champion Steer Roper but he worked the arena in all timed event aspects including calf roping and steer wrestling. He came close to making the National Finals Rodeo multiple times in the other timed events, finishing 16th in the world three times.
“You know it’s funny back when I was rodeoing, you know seemed like I could win good at the bigger rodeos but I couldn’t win at the little rodeos,” Call said.
Call has lived in California since he retired from rodeoing and took to working in the film industry. His first movie was Cattle Annie and Little Britches. Bert Lancaster became a mentor to Call as he took on the task of making movies.
According to Call, he got the best advice from Lancaster when Lancaster said, “Always give, never take”.
Call also played a part in Lonesome Dove, Silverado and more.
