Layton Green is in line to have the best finish of his career in 2021. The 27-year-old cowboy is heading to the second NFR of his career after finishing the season in fifth place with 102,246.38 in earnings. This will be Green’s first NFR since the 2017 season where he finished in ninth place.

It was a bit of a slow start to the season for Layton, as he did have his first big stretch until June. After the start of June saw Layton win around $5,000, he broke through for his first big paycheck at the Reno Rodeo. Layton went 87 points in the second round to earn a check of $5,348. In total at the Reno Rodeo, Green earned $8,336.

Following the Reno Rodeo, Green secured one of his 8 go-round wins at the Livingston Roundup Rodeo which earned him just under $5,000. Heading into July, Green was in a good spot to make his second career NFR, but there was still work to do. He would finish in second place at the Fiesta Days Rodeo thanks to an 87.5 point ride. The second-place finish earned him $3,980.

Towards the end of the season, Layton knew he had a great chance at the NFR, and he secured a top-5 finish in the World Standings with a massive showing at the California Rodeo Salinas. Green would jump all the way to fifth place in the World Standings after earning $18,789 on the final weekend of the season.

His final four rides were all over 87 points, including three straight go-round wins at the rodeo, highlighted by a 91 point ride that would win him the rodeo and a $10,000 check.

On the year, Green averaged 82.63 points per ride, more than two full points better than his previous career-best season. He also went over 85 points on 27% of his rides, his previous best was 13%. If you ask Layton he may tell you that he would have preferred the NFR to be the day after the Tour Finale in California, because nobody was riding better than the number 5 Saddle Bronc rider.
