Lisa Lockhart 2023 NFR

Jake Hodnett

Lisa Lockhart continues to add to her legend by returning to Las Vegas year after year. Her career is far from over as she prepares for her 18th trip to the National Finals Rodeo. She is coming in as the defending Average Champion, a title she has won three times, yet that coveted World Title has eluded the South Dakota cowgirl. Adding to it, Lockart’s 2023 NFR success made her the WPRA’s all-time career earnings leader when she surpassed $3.5 million.

The 2024 regular season was good to Lockhart. She avoided the bubble to be the No. 6 ranked barrel racer in the World with $140,888 to her name.

RodeoHouston, $27,500

At the largest winter rodeo there is, Lockhart would claim second. She won two of three Go-Rounds in Super Series 1 to set the pace and it would be her Round 2 time of 14.50 that would be her fastest of the week. A fourth-place finish in Semifinals 2 propelled her to the next round while in the Championship Shootout, Lockhart clocked a 14.54 to be second.

Adrian Newtown Rodeo Days, $1,791

In her neighboring state of North Dakota, Lockhart hustled to another second-place pay day when she stopped the clock at 14.71 seconds in June. She would trail Summer Kosel by three tenths of a second yet the next fastest time behind Lockhart would be a tenth back.

Greeley Stampede, $6,985

For Cowboy Christmas, Lockhart flew to the Round 1 win in Colorado after a 17.09-second run beat out the second place cowgirl, reigning World Champion Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi’s 17.30 by more than two tenths. While she slowed down in Round 2, she picked back up to finish third in the Finals with a 17.28-second run to get a second place payday in the Average.

Earlier during the Fourth of July run, Lockhart swung into the Western Fest Stampede Rodeo to win it all to the tune of 15.09 seconds.

NFR Open, $11,500

In Colorado Springs, Lockhart was as consistent as ever when she finished second in both Go-Rounds to be the No. 1 lady advancing. In the Finals, Lockart clocked a 16.77 for a solid third-place finish, which paid her $7,000.

Sheridan County Fair and Rodeo, $1,394

Lockhart claimed another win in Gordon, Nebraska, clocking a 17.53 to narrowly outpace her closest competitor by only three hundredths of a second.

Later that week, Lockhart kicked off the month of August with another win a little further north in Montana. This win came in when Lockhart’s 17.02 was the fastest time by a much more comfortable margin, almost half a second.

Walla Walla Frontier Days, $4,846

The Washington rodeo would come down the narrow margins of just one hundredth of a second for Lockhart. Her time of 17.07 would be good enough for another second place pay day behind Summer Kosel.

Going back to Montana later in the week, Lockhart did it again at the Dillon Jaycees PRCA Rodeo, this time finishing second by one tenth of a second.

Pendleton Roundup, $12,717

Lockhart’s highest payday of the season was a big one. Cutter got the call for the Green Mile and the duo thrived. After finishing second last year, Lockhart and Cutter got it right this year to finally pull off the win. Their time in the Finals of 28.72 would be combined with their 28.57 from Round 1 to win it all. Their Round 1 time was also the fastest of the entire rodeo.

Othello PRCA Rodeo, $1,893

They followed up their season high with one more win. A trip back to Washington resulted in a 17.26 to get the win by exactly two tenths of a second.
