In 1986, Steve Dunham and Robin Burwash went head-to-head for what some consider the greatest showdown in rodeo history.
Each bareback rider made two rides on Championship Sunday and ended up tied for the win. This forced the need for a ride off to see who would become the Calgary Stampede Champion.
In the ride off, Dunham and Burwash both marked 78 points meaning a second ride off was needed. In the second ride off, the two cowboys scored 76 points each keeping it tied. After four bareback horses for both Dunham and Burwash each, the two Canadian champions decided to split the Championship title.
This is the only time since Championship Sunday was introduced in 1982 that a tie for the coveted title has occurred.
