Shane Hanchey’s veteran ways showed out at Globe Life Field on Saturday. His place in the 2-24 World Standings secured a bye for the Contender Finals and when he nodded in the Ten Man Round, he shut the clock off at 7.58 seconds to tie for the Round win with the only $1 million eligible cowboy, Kincade Henry, to advance.
“Glory to God. If it wasn’t for him, none of us would be here. I’m so thankful that my son, Stran, and my wife, Taylor, got to watch here. Iron sharpens iron. Riley’s the best calf roper in the World and I can finally say I beat him today,” Hanchey said.
Hanchey would best his own time in the best way when he backed into the box in the Four Man Round. He was the last cowboy out and the time to beat was Riley Webb’s 6.9, the only sub-7-second run of the rodeo so far. It would be a 6.73-second run for Hanchey to lock in the win.
This is Hanchey’s second American Rodeo title and the World Champion calf roper is embracing the high that comes with it.
