After breaking through the for the first time in 2018, Will Lummus is headed to his third consecutive Wrangler NFR this December.

Lummus started his quest for the 2020 NFR by picking up a few checks in Florida and Mississippi in January before vaulting himself near the top of the standings by earning about $6,500 in the brand new Dickies Arena. At the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, he had three straight runs of 4.5 seconds or less.

In February, the Mississippi cowboy continued to take advantage of nearby rodeos, winning first place in Perry, Georgia on Feb. 22 with a 4.1-second run and third in Kissimmee, Florida on Feb. 23 with a 3.7-second time. Both rodeos earned him checks of more than $1,500. He also won the Southern Miss Coca Cola Rodeo on Feb. 15.

Lummus also notched rodeo wins in Mesquite, Texas and Elko, Nevada. However, his biggest check of the season came in Cody, Wyoming, where he was third with a 3.9-second run, collecting $4,988.

WILL LUMMUS - 3.6 SECONDS IN ELKO

Lummus enters the Wrangler NFR in 13th place in the world standings and said while he was on the bubble this year, he was paying close attention to the standings.

“Some guys don’t watch the standings, but I do, I think it’s a motivator for me,” he said. “I kind of like being backed into a corner and have to come out swinging.”

Lummus’ best finish in the world standings is third place, which he did in 2018. In 2019, he finished No. 11. He has placed in 13 of the 20 rounds he has competed at the Wrangler NFR.
