National Finals Rodeo: Round 6 Recap, Highlights and Payouts

We are officially more than halfway through the 2024 NFR, which means the intensity is getting turnt up nightly

The National Finals Rodeo stayed in stride on Tuesday night, delivering standout performances and shaking up World Title races across the board. With momentum shifting nightly, the race for gold buckles is heating up in Las Vegas with just rounds to go.

After picking up a check in Round 5, Rocker Steiner proved again on Tuesday night he will not go quietly in the bareback riding. Injured hand and all, the cowboy who entered the NFR No. 1, was 89 points on Tator Tot of Korkow Rodeo to take back his spot on top of the World Standings.

There is still work to do for Steiner, however, because he is No. 3 in the Projected World Standings while Hayes remains No.1. Dean Thompson is projected No. 2.

Scott Guenthner, a standout Canadian cowboy, claimed the steer wrestling victory with another stellar performance. He clocked 3.8 seconds on Tuesday, extending his streak of sub-4-second runs to three rounds. Meanwhile, the World Title race remains razor-tight. Will Lummus, Rowdy Parrott, and Cash Robb—currently holding the top three spots in both the Projected World Standings and NFR Average—each earned a check on Tuesday night.

Brenten Hall and Kaden Profili delivered a sensational performance in team roping, capturing their first career Go-Round win with a 3.5, matching the Round 6 record.

In saddle bronc riding, Statler Wright picked up the first Go-Round win of his career in his NFR debut. He was 87.5 points on Jessica Rabbit of Five Star Rodeo and the Wright brothers have now won three straight Go-Rounds.

After ascending to No. 1 in the NFR Average, Wyatt Casper is currently the Projected World Champion. Damian Brennan is No. 2, Ryder Wright is No. 3, and Zeke Thurston is fourth in the Projected World Standings.

In tie-down roping, Haven Meged got his first Go-Round win and showed it could be a three-horse race for Gold rather than just Shad Mayfield and Riley Webb. Those two cowboys, however, didn’t let Meged gain much ground on them. Mayfield was 7.2 to split second and Webb took fifth with 7.7.

Webb remains No. 1 in the World Standings, Projected Standings, and NFR Average while Mayfield is No. 2 in all three. Both cowboys have already cleared $350,000.

If you’re looking for a barrel racing round winner other than Kassie Mowry or Hailey Kinsel, you’re not going to find anyone. For the third straight night, Mowry and Jarvis topped the leaderboard and they did it with a 13.25, a Round 6 record and the fastest run of the rodeo.

Mowry has now made $164,309 at the NFR and leads the RAM Top Gun Standings, but still trails Kinsel.

To finish the night, Josh Frost took control of the bull riding World Title race by going for 90 and becoming the first one at this year’s NFR to ride five bulls. He also leads the World Standings by $70,000 now.
